I was first introduced to Curve Treadmills, specifically the Woodway (I think it was) when working at FIBO in 2016. We obtained our first for the gym in maybe 2018, it was the first Xebex version. Fast-forward some years, and many other brands later, I think we can say that they're here to stay. Our current model being the ATX Curve Treadmill.

While studies suggest that you can burn up to 30% more calories on a curve treadmill, compared to a traditional one, this is predominantly because it's used for High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and somewhat due to the increased drive force in moving the ground (belt) beneath you.

Again though, while this form is encouraged as more natural, running on a flat-surface is actually more natural and the hope is that the encouraged improved form transitions to running on a flat-surface, also, such as the road or a traditional running bed.

The expense for a home-user is still great. An ATX Curve Treadmill costs £2295. While a curve treadmill is far cheaper than the commercial equivalent, such as a Life Fitness Platinum Series Treadmill at £12995, a decent home-use motorised treadmill is in the same ball-park price, the Life Fitness T3 being £2995. When looking circa £2.5-£3k, I'd personally opt for the motorised version.

Lastly, running on a flat-bed treadmill is more similar to running on the road. The transfer is better. A long-distance will much prefer to continue their training on a traditional motorised treadmill.
